Work from Home: Laptops are Creating Inclusive Opportunities for Women

In the current pandemic situation, one blessing in disguise has been the large-scale shift to work-from-home. Not only did organizations across the world adopt a culture that was previously shunned, but the benefits of work-from-home were also realized. Going forward, several companies are giving their employees an option to work-from-home for as long as they wish. Apart from these perks, work-from-home has turned out to be a boon for women who may be unable to travel due to added responsibilities.

Furthermore, there has been a steady rise in the number of female applicants for jobs at present due to the flexibility that work-from-home has to offer. According to a study by JobsforHer, there has been a 62% increase in job applications that the platform received between April and July and a 55% average increase in the number of work-from-home jobs posted by companies. Also, 90% of women were comfortable with the virtual hiring process as it saves time and is convenient, the study revealed.

Several work-from-home jobs have been booming over the past few months, like web design, graphics designing, online teaching, virtual assistants, and data entry specialists, to name a few. The trend is now here to stay, and is likely to continue booming for years to come. What women need in order to get an edge in all these jobs is a good laptop.

The Ideal Laptop for Remote Working

Although different professions have different needs, there are certain responsibilities that are common amongst all careers. For instance, a laptop should have plenty of RAM and good battery backup so that issues like lag and excessive heating do not crop up while women teach online through video conferencing, or while writing codes.

In addition to that, for job roles like web and graphic designing, apart from a powerful processor, a discrete graphics chip with VRAM and SSD storage is essential to achieve the desired output. What’s more, designers often use keyboard shortcuts, so proper placement of keys and ergonomic design would be required to maintain the pace of work.

Also, it goes without saying that all the above-mentioned jobs require intense gazing into the screen for long hours. So a large screen with an HD display is more than crucial and an often-undermined feature that a laptop must-have. So, keeping all these points in mind, a good laptop must have the following specifications to support women who are working from home:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7
  • RAM: 16GB or more
  • Storage: 512 GB SSD or higher
  • Display: At least 15 Inches high definition screen
  • Operating System: Windows 10 Professional
  • Battery: 8 hours or more

One laptop that women can look forward to in order to be successful in their career is the Elitebook series by HP. There are a number of models available, both convertibles and laptops. They’ve all undergone stringent MIL-19 grade testing, which really enhances their durability. Plus, they have long battery life, and plenty of security features, which can make them a perfect fit in WFH environments.
